Meet the duo
Swing 'n Soul is: Genny Laverty and
Vicky Brohier
Genny Laverty
Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Genny comes from a talented, musical family of seven children. She is an accomplished pianist and vocalist. She started studying classical piano at the age of 7, and as a teenager added voice training and guitar playing to her musical skills. Throughout her childhood and adolescent years, she sharpened her proficiency by studying the theory of music to diploma level.
Genny loves to use her musical skills singing and playing in public and with friends. She has sung with choirs in Northern Ireland and Geneva, and has performed in a variety of roles on stage in amateur operatic societies.
Apart from music, Genny also enjoys reading, cinema, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Vicky Brohier
Vicky is a naturalised Swiss, originally from Sri Lanka. She grew up in a musical family and, as far back as she can remember, she listened to many a jam-session when uncles, aunts, grandparents and parents got together to pool their talents during family gatherings.
She always enjoyed singing and was fascinated with the guitar. One day, when she was about 12, a very kind musician took pity on her, put a guitar in her hands and showed her a few basic chords. That was just the beginning…
Vicky’s very first professional performance was when she was 13 – she joined Sri Lanka’s first all-girl pop group, “The Speed Jets”. She played rhythm and lead guitar and co-shared lead vocals. Since then, she has sung with other Sri Lankan pop bands.
Vicky also enjoys cooking, entertaining, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Although from very different musical backgrounds, Genny and Vicky teamed up to create Swing 'n Soul to share their love and passion for music.
